CHICAGO (Thursday, April 26, 2001) - Less than a week after advancing to their unprecedented ninth consecutive FIFA World Championship, the U.S. Under-17 Men's National Team will face off against the Haiti Under-17 National Team this Saturday, April 28, at Lockhart Stadium in the second half

"I look forward to playing a strong Haiti team, and I think they will provide us with a solid test as we begin our preparations for the World Championship in Trinidad & Tobago in September," U.S. head coach John Ellinger said.
The U.S. Under-17s stormed through CONCACAF qualifying, posting a perfect 3-0-0 record in three Group "A" matches and outscoring their opponents 10-3.
U.S. forward Ed Johnson paced the attack for the U.S., scoring five goals in the tournament, including a hat trick in the deciding 4-0 win against El Salvador. Santino Quaranta also chipped in two goals to match his two assists.
For Haiti, the U.S. match will serve as final preparations before Haiti begins their final round qualifying for the FIFA Under-17 World Championship at the CONCACAF Group B Qualifying Tournament in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Haiti, who won the Carribean Zone 1 Tournament to qualify for the Group B tournament, will face Mexico, Costa Rica and Honduras in Honduras. If Haiti finishes at the top of group B qualifying and advances to Trinidad & Tobago, it will mark the first time Haiti has advanced to a youth championship at the Under-17 or Under-20 level.
The match will begin immediately following the first-place Fusion's home game against the New England Revolution. The Fusion is looking to extend a club record five-game home-winning streak against the Revs Saturday night with kickoff slated for 7:30 PM.
Tickets for the doubleheader are still available by calling 1-888-FUSION-4, or at local TicketMaster outlets.
