This month, “Starting XI” features the coaching philosophy of U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team head coach John Hackworth (watch).
“I got involved with coaching when I was still playing collegiately,” said Hackworth, who played soccer at Wake Forrest University under former National Team coach Walt Chyzowych. “My coach, through camps and things, just thought I had an ability to teach.”

Last month’s edition of “Starting XI” featured U.S. Women’s National Team head coach Greg Ryan. Ryan discusses topics ranging from top-level coaches to the evolution of U.S. Soccer’s coaching schools (watch).
I’m real happy to see the evolution of U.S. Soccer’s coaching curriculum. I think were moving toward a game-based approach as opposed to a drill-based approach to coaching,” Ryan commented in the video.
