PDA Dispatches Greensboro Youth Soccer 2-0 To Take Second Place in Group 2
With a chance of advancement to the championship on the line, U-15/16 New Jersey side PDA played aggressive, attacking soccer and dispatched Greensboro Youth Soccer 2-0 on the final day of group games. They didn’t get the break needed in another game however, and will have to settle for playing in the third place match on Friday, July 17 at 5 pm PT.

Needing a win and a Cal Odyssey loss to at least have a shot at winning the group, PDA put their foot to the pedal in the opening minutes, but Greensboro’s defense held firm. Without a win yet in Finals Week, the North Carolina squad was playing for pride and the chance at a better placement match.
Greensboro earned the first corner of the day in the 14th minute, but PDA had the better first chance of the game with a free kick in the 16th minute. Taken from deep inside the Greensboro half along the left flank, the good service found the head of Robert Barrera but was headed wide.
It would be on PDA’s first corner that they’d get the first goal of the game in the 28th minute. The kick was sent long, but Thomsen collected it on the right side of the box and sent the ball back across the goal, finding the head of a wide open Tommy Uttaro for an easy header into the left side of the goal.
Seven minutes later PDA doubled their lead with a beautifully built goal that originated at midfield. Two give and go’s between Brandon Allen and Thomsen eventually found Allen alone into the left side of the box with a through ball, which he calmly turned towards goal and finished past Greensboro ‘keeper John Brooks.
Finding out that the score in the other game still didn’t benefit them, PDA came out firing again in the second half trying to ensure the win in the only game they could control. A rather rash challenge on a header produced a red card for Greensboro forward Mamadee Nyepon in the 43rd minute, just two minutes into the second half. Yet despite the man advantage, it would be Greensboro who had the most possession in the second half.
Several long range efforts barely missed the frame, and PDA’s defense held on for the shutout eventually, but not before an 82nd minute scare that saw Jordan Lessard pass it to the top of the box for Matthew Mills, who blasted his shot just over the bar.
