PA Classics Take Group 2 Lead with Win against CASL Chelsea FC Academy
July 11, 2011
The only team to emerge victorious in any of the four U-15/16 games Sunday afternoon, PA Classics is in the driver’s seat as the teams compete for a place in the championship match that takes place Saturday, July 17. Classics will play Real Salt Lake AZ on Tuesday, July 12, at 2 p.m. CT. CASL will look to make up ground when they take on North Carolina Fusion on Tuesday at 3 p.m. CT at Uihlein Soccer Park.
PA Classics came out firing on all cylinders and capitalized on their first dangerous opportunity. Quincy Thomas made a run down the right wing with speed and played a driven ball into the box. An attempted clearance led to the ball bouncing in the area before Herstek struck a half-volley that gave CASL goalkeeper Samuel Williams little chance.
Herstek nearly doubled Classics’ lead in the 37th minute. A good passing sequence between Thomas and Connor Maloney produced a cross into the box, where Herstek was striding towards goal. The midfielder halted his run and got off a half volley that flew just high.
In the second half, CASL picked up its pressure and possession, but the PA Classics defense held firm. Goalkeeper Brent Arnold was forced into only two saves on the night as he posted a shutout in his side’s first ever match in Finals Week.
