Friedel Leads Blackburn Into Europe

LONDON, England (Sunday, May 11, 2003) - Brad Friedel's 16th clean sheet of the season led Blackburn Rovers to a 4-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur and the club's first berth in the UEFA Cup through league play since 1995. Combined with a 2-1 Everton loss to Manchester United, Blackburn climbed to a sixth-place finish in the English Premier League, their best position since the 1997-98 campaign. Friedel, the PFA Goalkeeper of the Year, compiled a 16-9-12 record in league play with a 1.07 goals against average.
