Reyna, who will captain the U.S. in their crucial World Cup qualifier against Mexico next week, scored the equalizer from 12 yards out in the 66th minute, then Andy Cole added the game-winner three minutes later as Manchester City improved their unbeaten record to 3-0-1 with a 2-1 victory against Portsmouth. The Light Blues are unbeaten in 12 matches under former England international Stuart Pearce, moving to second place in the league table, with only store-bought Chelsea collecting more points in a league campaign only four matches old.
Much farther south in West London, Brian McBride delivered Fulham their first win of the year, getting on the end of a service from Moritz Volz and drilling home from a dozen yards. The U.S. international striker's second goal of the season proved the only goal of the match, disappointing his former club Everton in handing them a 1-0 defeat. There was more good news for U.S. fans as Carlos Bocanegra made his debut appearance for Fulham this year after being sidelined with a knee injury, going the distance in central defense to help solidify the shutout.
