Match Against Five-Time World Cup Champion to be Held at New Meadowlands Stadium
CHICAGO (June 14, 2010) – Ticket sales for the USA’s international friendly match against Brazil after the 2010 FIFA World Cup have already hit the 25,000 mark after being on sale to the general public for only three days.
The U.S. will host the five-time World Cup champion in their first match after the 2010 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday, Aug. 10, at 8 p.m. ET at the New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
Advance tickets starting at $40 are available to the public through ussoccer.com, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, at all area Ticketmaster ticket centers, and at the IZOD Center ticket office (open Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.). The USA-Brazil match, which will be broadcast live on ESPN2, will be played with stars from both teams less than one month after the conclusion of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. The contest will mark Brazil’s first appearance in the New York area in 14 years.
The teams last met in the final of the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, where the U.S. jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Clint Dempsey and Landon Donovan before Brazil rallied for a 3-2 victory.
Recently opened in 2010 the New Meadowlands Stadium is one of the 18 stadiums that is part of the bid to bring the FIFA World Cup to the United States in 2018 or 2022.
The U.S. Men's National Team is currently in South Africa participating in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, where the U.S. drew England 1-1 in their opening match of the tournament. Playing in its sixth consecutive World Cup finals tournament, the U.S. will next face Slovenia on June 18 in Johannesburg before finishing Group C play against Algeria on June 23 in Tshwane/Pretoria.
