U.S. Paralympic Team Falls to Russia 5-0 in CPISRA Football Championship
The U.S. Paralympic Soccer Team dropped its opening match against Russia 5-0 at the CPISRA 7-a-Side Football Championship in the Netherlands. Russia, which is ranked one of the top two teams in the world along with Ukraine, opened the scoring on a U.S. own goal in the ninth minute and never looked back, adding goals in the 10th, 11th, 17th and 50th minutes as Ivan Potekhin registered a hat trick.

ARNHEM, Netherlands (Oct. 23, 2009) -- The U.S. Paralympic Soccer Team dropped its opening match against Russia 5-0 at the CPISRA 7-a-Side Football Championship in the Netherlands.
Russia, which is ranked one of the top two teams in the world along with Ukraine, opened the scoring on a U.S. own goal in the ninth minute and never looked back, adding goals in the 10th, 11th, 17th and 50th minutes as Ivan Potekhin registered a hat trick.
The U.S. was drawn into Group B with Russia and Scotland, whom the team will face Oct. 25.
Group A consists of Ukraine, Ireland and Ghana. Group C drew Iran, Netherlands and Canada, and Group D includes Brazil, Australia and Japan. The top two teams in each of the four groups will advance to the next round.
