U-18 MNT Closes Out South America Trip with 2-2 Draw Against Chile

SANTIAGO, Chile (July 29, 2010) -- The U.S. U-18 Men's National Team rounded out its trip to South America with a 2-2 draw against Chile in in Santiago Bruera Stadium in Santiago, Chile. Mike Matkovich's side twice went down a goal, but both times battled back to equalize behind a goal and an assist from Real Salt Lake's Luis Gil.

The hosts opened the scoring in the 31st minute, wiht Alan Lutecke finishing a shot that ricocheted off of an American defender and bounced to his feet. Just inside the box, Lutecke finished low to give his team the early advantage. It wouldn't last long, however, as Gil fired a powerful free kick that smacked off the bottom of the cross bar and bounced over the goal line to make it 1-1.

Minutes after halftime, Jesus Villabolos dipped a shot from just outside the penalty area that curled into the far post past U.S. 'keeper Ryan Herman to give Chile a 2-1 lead. But in the 76th minute,
a good individual effort from Gil found Jonathan Top streaking down the field. Top ripped a shot from about 20 yards out that would seal the draw for the Americans.
