U.S. U-17 MNT Split Squad Earns Draw and Win Against Chivas USA Development Academy Teams
The U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team picked up a win and a draw against the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s Chivas USA in the U-15/16 and U-17/18 age groups, respectively. It was the first stop in a nine-city exhibition tour that the U-17 MNT will play throughout the course of the Development Academy season.
Sep. 17, 2008
The first game between the younger of the U-17 split squads topped Chivas USA's U-15/16s, 2-0, behind goals from Victor Pineda and Charles Renken, who is regaining form after recovering from an ACL injury.
The older squads played an entertaining back and forth affair that ended in a 3-3 draw, and saw each team take the lead at various points throughout the match. Jack McInerny got the U.S. on the board in just the eighth minute. Chivas' Jesse Paredes evened the score in the 28th, but McInerney struck again six minutes later. A brace from Chivas' Andy Lopez early in the second half gave his team its first lead of the day, but Luis Gil scored the final goal of the game just six minutes from time.
The U.S. continues its tour this weekend, traveling to San Diego to take on Nomads SC. Kickoff for Saturday's games are at 12 p.m. PT for the U-15/16s and 2:30 p.m. PT for the U-17/18s.
