FIFA Exploring Options for 2009 FIFA Under-17 World Cup

Nigeria, scheduled to host the 2009 FIFA Under-17 World Cup, has informed FIFA that it is no longer in a position to provide its support for the organization of the tournament.

CHICAGO (Oct. 24, 2008) – Nigeria, scheduled to host the 2009 FIFA Under-17 World Cup, has informed FIFA that it is no longer in a position to provide its support for the organization of the tournament. FIFA will make a decision on whether they will look to an alternate host in the near future. The tournament is currently set for October 24 – November 16, 2009.

The U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team, under head coach Wilmer Cabrera, will attempt to qualify for it’s record 13th-consecutive FIFA U-17 World Cup early next year. Dates and times for CONCACAF Qualifying, which will be held in Mexico, will be announced at a later date.
