CHICAGO (Feb. 12, 2010) -- The U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team will travel to La Manga, Spain, from Feb. 26-March 6 to participate in the Ten Nations Tournament where it will play three matches. The tournament is an Under-19 competition, so the U.S. team will be going against players one-year older. U.S. head coach Dave Chesler will bring 18 players to face Norway on March 1, Germany on March 3 and Sweden on March 5 in what should be excellent matches for the U.S. players that were born mostly in 1992, with a few in 1991. The roster of players being brought to Spain are not in the core group being prepared by U.S. Under-20 head coach Jill Ellis for the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in German this summer, but all the players are eligible for that team. The 15 players on the U-18 roster that were born in 1992 are still age-eligible for the 2012 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup, so this tournament will serve as early preparation for that cycle. The other U-19 teams participating in the competition, which basically features three friendly matches for each country, are England, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland and Italy. The U.S. U-18s will actually arrive in La Manga on the same day that the U.S. U-20s will be departing after participating in the four-nation La Manga Cup.
