U.S. Under-18 WNT Falls to Norway U-19 WNT 1-0 to Finish Ten Nations Tournament in La Manga, Spain

The U.S. U-18 Women’s National Team used an own goal to defeat the German U-19 Women’s National Team 1-0 in its second match of the Ten Nations Tournament.

LA MANGA, Spain (March 5, 2010) – The U.S. U-18 Women’s National Team gave up a goal less than a minute into the game and could not produce one over the rest of the match, falling 1-0 to the Norway U-19 National Team in its third and final game of the Ten Nations Tournament.

The U.S. U-18s had won its first two matches in this competition consisting of three friendly matches for each team, defeating Germany’s U-19s 1-0 on March 3 and Sweden’s U-19s 3-1 on March 1.

The lone goal came after just 55 seconds when Norway’s Cathrine Dekkerhus headed home a corner kick.

The 16 players on the U-18 roster that were born in 1992 or 1993 are still age-eligible for the 2012 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup, so this tournament will serve as early preparation for that cycle.
