The U.S. Under-18 Men's National team got a bitter taste of their first international experience when they were shutout twice in their first two international matches of the year against Ireland (0-1) and Portugal (0-2) at the International Tournament of Lisbon in Lisbon, Portugal. The U-18s regrouped and finished the tournament with a 2-1 victory over Norway. The U-18s will reconvene at the end of the summer in Rhode Island for the U.S. Amateur Soccer Festival in late July. The U.S. Under-17 Men's National team dominated and controlled much of play in their first two matches of the Mundialito of Salerno 2000 Tournament in Salerno, Italy but fell to hosts Italy, 1-2, and then to youth powerhouse Argentina, 2-3. U.S. forward Santino Quaranta (Baltimore, Md.) scored twice against Germany, and finished the tournament with three goals and one assist to earn the tournament Golden Boot. Next up for the U-17s will be a July 13-23 training camp at the ARCO Training Center in San Diego, Calif.
