U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team Defeats Norway
CAMACHA, PORTUGAL (March 5, 2003) - The U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team gained three points after beating Norway 2-0 today in their second match of the 7th Annual Madeira International Tournament. The victory gives the U.S. a total of four points after drawing with Portugal 1-1 in their opening match on March 4.

Alvarez scored the first goal for the U.S. off a long volley from midfielder David Johnson in the 19th minute. Alvarez collected the ball in the 18-yard box, dribbled to his left and ripped a shot that caromed off the right post into the goal.
Late in the second half, Grabavoy sealed the victory, finding the far right post on a free kick from the left side in the 82nd minute.
With the win, the U.S. has earned four points and a plus-1 goal differential after drawing with Portugal 1-1 in the opening contest. The Portuguese defeated the Madeira Select team 1-0 earlier in the day on a goal in the 90th minute.
The U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team is in final prepartion for the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship in United Arab Emirates. The U.S. opens against Paraguay on March 27, then faces Germany on March 30 and concludes group play on April 2 against Korea, with all three of their first round games at Abu Dhabi’s Al-Nahyam Stadium. The top two teams from each group and the top four (of six) third-place teams advance to the Round of 16. The U.S. is one of only five teams to qualify for the last four World Youth Championships, and one of only two teams (Brazil is the other) to finish in the top 15 in each of the last four.
