All I Want For Christmas...With the U.S. Women's National Team
CHICAGO (December 23, 2007) - It’s the time of the year Santa has opened all his letters, made his list, and is preparing for his yearly jaunt through the skies. The U.S. WNT players, however, are gearing up to get a big 2008 started during the first few days of January. First, though, comes the holidays, and several WNT players shared with ussoccer.com what they wanted for Christmas.
Dec. 23, 2007
Forward Heather O’Reilly
“A camera, because I lost mine in Europe and some cooking classes with my boyfriend.”
Note: Heather’s next Residency Camp roommate will appreciate the cuisine. She currently makes a mean macaroni and cheese.
Midfielder Lori Chalupny:
“Just general household items for my new condo (Lori bought one in her hometown of St. Louis). I could use some pots and pans and a vacuum cleaner.”
Note: Perhaps Lori could bring her pots and pans to Residency Camp and Heather O’Reilly could cook.
Defender Kate Markgraf (mother of a 17-month-year-old):
“A Starbucks gift card or pretty much anything with a steady supply of caffeine. Also, some ramekins so I can make crème bruleé. I already have the blow torch.”
Note: Caffeine and a lot of sugary crème bruleé are always good for keeping up with an almost two-year old boy.
Midfielder Angie Woznuk:
“A Panini grill. If I ever go out for a sandwich, I always get a grilled Panini so it would be cool to be able to make them at home.”
Note: Is anyone noticing that food is a major theme with U.S. WNT players?
Defender Rachel Buehler
“Swing dancing lessons with my boyfriend.”
Note: Buehler, a Stanford graduate, was too busy taking molecular chemistry and the principles of biogenetics in college to have time for swing dancing classes.
Forward Natasha Kai
Note: If only the rest of the world was as chill as Hawaii?
Defender Cat Whitehill:
“I really would like another dog so my current dog Izzy would have a best friend, but I’ve been told, ‘See Robert (her husband) before purchasing another dog.’ I also want jerseys for Tim Tebow (quarterback, Florida), Tyler Hansbrough (center, UNC) and Knowshon Moreno (running back, Georgia) and the video game Dance, Dance Revolution.”
Note: Cat loves dogs, college sports and dancing.
Midfielder Carli Lloyd
“Quality time with my boyfriend in Australia and DVDs of Season 4 of Beverly Hills 90210.”
Note: Carli is currently in Australia, but the DVDs are more likely to fill the major amount of downtime the team gets on its trips to China.
Defender Marian Dalmy
“An apartment so I can have a place to call home.”
Note: Dalmy has been a soccer vagabond for a while now.
Christie Rampone, mother of a two-year-old daughter:
“A life-time supply of Coffee Bean coffee.”
Note: Luckily for the Soccer Moms, lattes are not on the IOC list of banned substances.
Forward Abby Wambach:
“A gold medal. I can wait eight months for it.”
Note: ‘Nuff said.
Happy Holidays from ussoccer.com!
