Ella Masar Replaces Lauren Cheney on WNT Roster
Forward Ella Masar has replaced Lauren Cheney on the 25-player U.S. Women’s National Team roster that will start a 17-day training camp on Jan. 20 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

Cheney had to withdraw from camp due to academic commitments at UCLA.
Masar has been a key member of the U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team for the past two years, earning eight U-23 caps while helping the USA to Nordic Cup titles in Finland and Sweden. At least year’s Nordic Cup, she scored in the 2-0 win over Norway to send the USA to the championship game, then tallied twice against Germany in the 3-0 victory to take the title.
This will be the first senior team call-up for the 5-foot-5 striker who played her college soccer at Illinois, where she was an All-American and finished her career with 27 goals and 20 assists. Masar, an Illinois native from Urbana, will play in the WPS next season with the Chicago Red Stars.
Following the training camp, U.S. head coach Pia Sundhage will choose an 18-player roster to participate in the annual Algarve Cup in Portugal, this year running from March 4-11.
