U.S. Opens First FIFA U-19 Women's World Championship with 5-1 Win over England

VICTORIA, B.C. (Saturday, August 17, 2002) - The U.S. Under-19 Women's National Team got two goals from Kelly Wilson and one each from Lindsay Tarpley, Leslie Osborne and Heather O'Reilly to open the 2002 FIFA Under-19 Women's World Championship on a spectacular day at Centennial Stadium, rolling over a tough England squad on the way to a 5-1 victory. It was the first match ever played in a FIFA World Championship by a U.S. youth women's team, who won over the 2,500 highly entertained fans on a sun-splashed Victoria afternoon with some dynamic attacking soccer.
