U.S. Women's Deaflympic Team Wins Gold Medal at 2005 Deaflympics in Australia

The United States’ Women’s Deaf National Soccer Team took the Gold Medal at the 2005 Deaflympics in Melbourne, Australia, on Sunday, January 16, by defeating Russia, 3-0, at the Olympic Park. The U.S. women became the first soccer Gold Medal winners of the tournament, as this was the first year women’s soccer was included as a Deaflympic sport. The U.S Men’s Deaflympic team ended with the team’s highest finish ever, defeating the Czech Republic, 1-0, for ninth place on Friday.
