Hamm's Three Assists Lead U.S. Past Sweden in Opener

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 21, 2003) – Mia Hamm registered all three assists as the U.S. Women’s National Team downed Sweden 3-1 this afternoon in their opening match of the FIFA Women’s World Cup USA 2003. Kristine Lilly, Cindy Parlow and Shannon Boxx were all on the receiving end of Hamm’s passes, scoring for the U.S. in front of 34,144 fans at RFK Stadium. The U.S. will travel to Philadelphia, Pa., tonight and will have three days of training before clashing with Nigeria at Lincoln Financial Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET, which will be televised live on ESPN2.
