WASHINGTON, D.C. (Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003) - It has been four years since Brandi Chastain nailed the winning penalty shot of the 1999 Women's World Cup, ripped off her jersey and became a cultural icon. In less than 24 hours, Chastain and the rest of the U.S. Women's National Team embark on another journey as the USA takes on Sweden in its opening match of the 2003 Women's World Cup at RFK Stadium. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. and the match will be televised live by ABC and TeleFutura. The U.S. women held a spirited 45-minute training session at RFk this morning and selected players met with the media in the afternoon. Check out today's notes on the U.S. WNT and read quotes from head coach April Heinrichs, Mia Hamm, Briana Scurry, Cat Reddick, Tiffeny Milbrett and Chastain.
