Sep. 25, 2004

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Saturday, September 25, 2004) - Olympic hero Abby Wambach put on a dazzling display in front of a sold-out crowd in her hometown, scoring two first half goals on trademark headers and playing a part in the two other scores while leading the USA to a surprisingly dramatic 4-3 victory over Iceland in the opening game of the "Fan Celebration Tour." The win didn't come easy, as Iceland stormed back from a 3-0 deficit and stunned the home team and the crowd with three goals in a span of six minutes to tie the match in the 72nd minute. It took a tap-in goal from defender Heather Mitts after a goalmouth scramble in the last minute of stoppage time to decide the outcome.
