A member of the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup side that marched impressively to the final, Sam Cronin made the move to the West Coast mid-season in 2010 when he joined the San Jose Earthquakes from Toronto. With San Jose, he helped the Earthquakes into the playoffs for their first time since their reformation in the Bay Area.

Made his first appearance for the USA when he started against Haiti in the Group Stage of the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Appeared in both playoff matches for the Earthquakes as they reached the 2010 Eastern Conference Final
