Klinsmann to Bring 22 Players to Los Angeles for Final Portion of January Camp
Five Players Return to Clubs While Columbus Defender Michael Parkhurst Joins Group; Camp Concludes with Friendly Against Korea Republic on Feb. 1 in Carson, Calif.
CHICAGO (Jan. 24, 2014) – U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has finalized a 22-player roster for the last part of the January camp that will be held at the National Training Center in Carson, Calif. A total of 26 players were part of the group that began training on Jan. 7 in preparation for the match against Korea Republic on Feb. 1 at StubHub Center.
Colorado Rapids defenders Chris Klute and Shane O’Neill, Sporting Kansas City defenders Chance Myers and Seth Sinovic, and Houston Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall will return to their clubs. Columbus Crew defender Michael Parkhurst has been added to the training camp roster and will join the team in Los Angeles.
The team has spent the last 12 days in Sao Paulo, Brazil, as part of an opportunity to go through a “dry run” for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Sao Paulo will be the site of the team’s base camp this summer ( Watch Now). The MNT will return to the United States on Saturday and have the weekend off before resuming training Monday.
“All of the players have put in a tremendous amount of work and effort these past two weeks,” said Klinsmann. “We had a great opportunity to introduce some new players into the Senior National Team Program and they have done extremely well. I think they have a bright future, and now they go back to their clubs with a better understanding of what it takes at the international level. We now move forward with the chance to finish off the camp with the goal of getting a result against Korea.”
The camp culminates with the friendly against the Korea Republic on Feb. 1 in Carson, Calif. Kickoff at StubHub Center is set for 2 p.m. PT, and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN2, WatchESPN and UniMas. Fans can also follow the match live on Twitter @ussoccer.
