City Overview:  Port Elizabeth is South Africa’s second oldest city and the commercial capital of the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Located on the eastern side of South Africa, Port Elizabeth is part of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan area which also includes the towns of Uitenhage and Despatch. Port Elizabeth contains moderate weather all year round and access to many beaches including the Blue Flag beaches, St. Georges Beach and Humewood Beach. In recent years, Port Elizabeth has experienced strong economic growth, leading to the development of new shopping centers, schools, casinos and major hotels. Winters are mild and pleasant. Water sports, including surfing, boardsailing and scuba-diving are practiced year-round.

Donkin Heritage Trail: Historic Donkin Heritage is a cultural site that highlights the history and journey of South Africa’s early settlers. The Donkin Heritage trail dates back to 1820, when Settlers arrived to this area in search of discovery and settlement. The trail is five kilometers long and includes 47 historical sites and architectural delights in the Old Hill area of central Port Elizabeth. More Information

St. Georges Park: St. George’s Park is one of many unique park areas in Port Elizabeth. This particular park is notable because it is home to the world famous Port Elizabeth Cricket Club, the oldest bowling green in South Africa, Prince Alfred's Guard Memorial and the 1882 Victorian Pearson Conservatory. Shamwari Game Reserve: This game reserve is a 45-minute drive from Port Elizabeth, between Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown. Over the years, Shamwari Game Reserve has received numerous international awards, including the World's Leading Conservation Company and Game Reserve for a number of consecutive years. The park is approximately 80 square miles and dates back to the time when game roamed freely in the Eastern Cape. Shamwari can be visited any time of year. Although frost can occur winter nights (June-August), days are generally warm and sunny. More Information
