Internet Cafes
Public establishments that offer internet access for a fee, have grown exponentially in South Africa over the last 10 years. The majority of internet cafes reside in the Gauteng province
- The average hourly rate for internet is 27R (~$3.70) with prices ranging from 6R (~$1.00) per hour to 75R (~$10.30) per hour.
- Close to half of the internet cafes in South Africa are closed on Sundays.

Cell Phone Communication
In early 2003, South Africa passed the Regulation of Interception of Communications Act (RICA) which states individuals are required to register temporary or permanent cell phones with South African mobile companies. Registration must take place in–person and involves presenting a passport, a local address, and phone information such as MSISDN of the SIM & IMEI of the handset. Anyone renting a phone in South Africa must register in person at a South African mobile phone shop.
