BRADENTON, Fla. (Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005) - The U-17 ’89 Men's National Team defeated the North Carolina ODP '88 team 3-1 this afternoon behind two goals from Josmer Altidore and another from Peri Marosevic. Altidore provided the U.S. with a lightning fast start as he buried a feed from Victor Cortez moments after the kickoff to give the U-17s a 1-0 lead.
Fifteen minutes later, Perica Marosevic scored off a pass from Cesar Nunez to double the U.S. lead.
In the second half, Matthew Betts was able to pull one back for North Carolina as he placed his penalty shot past goalkeeper Joe Bendik, who had come on for U.S. starter Evan Newton at halftime.
In the 90th minute, Altidore registered his second goal of the game when he placed his penalty shot past Nathaniel Berry for the final tally of the match.
