U-17 MNT Beat Notre Dame 3-1

BRADENTON, Fla. (March 8, 2005) - The U.S. Under-17 Men's National Team erupted after a scoreless first half to notch three goals in the second stanza against the University of Notre Dame to cruise to a 3-1 victory this afternoon at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

"This was a great win for us today," said U.S. Under-17 Men's National Team head coach John Hackworth. "It was a tough match against a really good Notre Dame squad. After the scoreless first half, we were able to push forward a little better and put away two good opportunities before getting the own goal to seal the win."

Quavas Kirk, who was recently drafted by the L.A. Galaxy in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft, put the first points on the board when he finished off a service from Preston Zimmerman in the 51st minute.

Five minutes later, Ryan Soroka doubled the U.S. lead as he buried a strike past the Notre Dame 'keeper after receiving a feed from Kirk.

The match was put out of reach in the 82nd minute when Notre Dame suffered an own goal.

Three minutes later, the Irish finally got on the board as a shot finally got past U.S. goalkeeper Bryant Rueckner, who performed well with five saves on the day.
