U-17 Men Draw 2-2 With PSV U-19

EINDHOVEN, Holland (August 1, 2005) - The U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team battled the PSV Eindhoven U-19 to a 2-2 draw on this afternoon in their first match of a 12-day tour of Holland as they continue to prepare for the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Championship, which will take place September 16-October 2.

The U.S. jumped out to an early lead as Ryan Soroka finished off a deflected shot by Jeremy Hall in the 12th minute and then doubled their lead 10 minutes later as Eddie Ababio's impressive dribbling skills on the right flank to get past several defenders was rewarded when his cross into the box was inadvertently knocked in for an own goal and a 2-0 lead for the U.S.

PSV bounced back with goals on either side of halftime, pulling within one in the 43rd minute and then finding the equalizer in the 50th minute.

The U.S. will play a total of four matches against reserve teams from Dutch clubs, also taking on Heerenveen on Aug. 3, KRC Genk on Aug. 6 and Ajax on Aug. 8, before returning home the following day.

The U.S. trained in Atlanta for three days before head coach John Hackworth naming his 22-player roster for the week-and-a-half trip in Holland, where they are based in Roermond. Only two players (Daniel Kelly and Diego Restrepo) joining the U-17s in Holland are not currently a part of U.S. Soccer’s Residency Program.
