SWINDON TOWN, England (Sept. 2, 2005) – The U.S. Under-17 '89 Men's National Team got a goal from Sheanon Williams to defeat England 1-0 in their second match of the Pepsi International Championship this evening in Swindon Town, England.

With the victory over the host along wth Portugal and Italy drawing 0-0 in the other match, the U.S. is now atop the group with four points. The U.S. can guarantee a first place finish with a victory over Portugal in their third and final match of the four-team round-robin tournament on Sunday, Sept. 4 at Forest Green Rovers Football Club.

In a tightly contested match, England had the slight shot advantage, 12-10, but it was the U.S. that was able to find the back of the net.

On the U.S. goal in the 31st minute, Anthony Wallace received the ball in the midfield and served the ball into the penalty area for Williams. The starting forward was able to get free from his defender to run onto the pass and head it past a helpless Ben Amos.

In the late stages of the second half, England pushed forward into the attack in a desperate attempt to find the equalizer in front of the 4,000 fans that had come out to support them, but the U.S. backline held strong and Josh Lambo came up with a few stellar saves in front of the net.
