U-14 GNT Roster Announced for Nike Friendlies
U.S. UNDER-14 GNT TO MAKE DEBUT AT 2007 WOMEN'S NIKE FRIENDLIES: The U.S. Under-14 Girl’s National Team will play its first ever competitive matches at the 2007 Nike Women’s Friendlies being held Sept. 20-23 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. The U-14 roster for the Nike Friendlies was chosen from the Under-14 National Development ID camp that was held July 30-August 5 in Pomona, Calif. The annual U-14 ID camp is used to select the player pool for the following year’s U.S. Under-15 Girl’s National Team, but the players do not usually start training in a National Team environment until the following year. This year it was decided to select a 24-player roster of U-14s to participate in the Nike Women’s Friendlies against U-16 girls’ club teams, giving U-15 GNT head coach Tad Bobak an early chance to evaluate the players, all born in 1993, in game competition. The U.S. U-14 GNT roster features twin forwards Shelby and Sydney Payne from Lutz, Florida. The U.S. U-14 GNT will face the U-16 Dallas Texans (Texas) on Thursday, Sept. 20, the U-16 Danville Mustangs (Northern California) on Friday, Sept. 21 in the Showcase Match and then finish against the U-16 Sereno club (Arizona) on Sunday, Sept. 22. Mike Dickey, the U.S. Women’s National Team staff coach for Region 2, will coach the U.S. U-14 GNT while Bobak will coach the U.S. U-15s, all born in 1992, against U-17 club teams in the Nike Friendlies.
