U-17 Non-Residency Players Fall 7-0 to Region II

AUSTIN, Texas (Nov. 26, 2005) - The players called into the U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team to be evaluated for the upcoming spring semester suffered a 7-0 loss this afternoon to the older US Youth Soccer ODP Boys Region II 1989 squad.

U-17 MNT head coach John Hackworth invited in nine players to the US Youth Soccer ODP Thanksgiving Interregional as he continues to get a first-hand look at players in the U-17 pool.

“This result is not something were happy about, but in the end it is really just about evaluating these players rather than getting a win,” said Hackworth. “These guys have never played together and it showed a bit, but we were able to see how the kids performed in a tough challenge, which will no doubt be valuable in deciding what players we believe can succeed in the U-17 Residency Program.”

Hackworth and the U-17 coaching staff conducted a mini-camp with non-Residency players in early November and invited in players to this event and the Nike Friendlies next week. The purpose is to give them the opportunity to see around 50 players before they make their final decisions on who they will bring in to Residency in January.
