CHICAGO (April 17, 2006) - The U.S. Under-18 Men's National Team will compete in the Slovakia Cup 2006 from April 20-29 in to Piest'any, Slovakia.
The U.S. was drawn in to Group A with Slovakia, Hungary and Malta, while Group B consists of the Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine and Belgium. The U.S. will head to Slovakia on Thursday, April 20, and have three days of training before taking on Hungary in their opening match on April 24, Malta a day later and finishing group play against the host on April 27. If the U.S. finishes in one of the top two spots in the group, they will play on April 28 in either the third place or championship match.
"This will be a great trip for these kids," said U.S. Under-18 Men's National Team head coach Bob Jenkins. "We've had a couple camps already this year, but this will be the first time the players will get to go up against international competition. We will have three tough group games and will be looking to advance to the placement matches on the last day.
Jenkins is brining an 18-man roster to Slovakia.
The U-18s kicked off the year with a 58-player mega camp at The Home Depot Center in January. Two months later, a smaller roster was brought into Bradenton, Fla., for a weeklong camp where the U-18s played four matches, going 2-1-1. The U-18s defeated the U-17 '89s, 2-0, and the IMG U-18s, 1-0, before drawing 2-2 with the U-17 '90s and falling to the University of Connecticut, 2-1.
