Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup
2006 U.S. Open Cup Preview: New Hampshire Phantoms (USL 2) at Rochester Rhinos (USL 1)

New Hampshire Phantoms (USL 2) at Rochester Rhinos (USL 1)
Paetec Park, Rochester, New York
Wednesday, July 12, 7:30 p.m. ET

The Rochester Rhinos have plenty of history in the U.S. Open Cup including a 1999 championship, the last Dewar Cup trophy won by a non-MLS team. More history is set for the making as the newly opened Paetec Park will host its first ever Open Cup Match. The Rhinos are unbeaten at their new stadium, but have only been able to notch up one win in three tries at Paetec Park. Although Rochester has tied six times this season, they currently sit second in the USL First Division with a 6-1-6 record. New Hampshire travels into Rochester with a convincing win in the Open Cup Second Round, beating Milford International (USASA) 4-1 at home. Both of these teams sit in the upper half of their league standings but have much to prove. Rochester could be the USL-1’s best shot at another Open Cup championship and a win versus New Hampshire allows the Rhinos to host a Fourth Round Match against the New England Revolution.
