Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup
2006 U.S. Open Cup Preview: Atlanta Silverbacks (USL 1) at Wilmington Hammerheads (USL 2)

Atlanta Silverbacks (USL 1) at Wilmington Hammerheads (USL 2)
Legion Sports Complex, Wilmington, N.C.
Wednesday, July 12, 7:30 p.m. ET

In their first two Open Cup Matches this season, the Wilmington Hammerheads have showed more strength and intensity than their opponents while also controlling the tempo throughout the game. Maintaining control of the run of play in the match will be a decisive factor in the success that the Hammerheads have against the First Division Silverbacks. Anthony Maher has emerged as the leader of the Hammerheads, totaling three goals and an assist in Open Cup play. The experience of Atlanta’s Alex Pineda-Chacon may help turn the tides on the comfort Wilmington will have playing their third straight Open Cup match at Legion Sports Complex. With both teams having multiple scoring threats and rather high goals against in league play, there might be a goal scoring spree set to take place in Wilmington on the 12th of July.
