U-17 Women's National Team Opens 2006 Women's Nike Friendlies with 4-0 Win over U-18 Surf SC

- Danielle Foxhoven Scores Twice in Second Half, Alex Morgan Registers One Goal and Two Assists
- U-17 WNT Takes on U.S. U-16 GNT on Friday, September 29, at 2 p.m. at The HDC

CARSON, California (Sept. 28, 2006) – Forward Alex Morgan assisted on a pair of goals and scored one of her own as the U.S. U-17 WNT topped the U-18 Surf SC in their first match at the 2006 Women’s Nike Friendlies at The Home Depot Center. Danielle Foxhoven had a big day as well with a pair of second-half goals.

The U.S. got on the board in the 11th minute as Morgan broke through the Surf back line and squared a ball for Amanda DaCosta to hit home inside the far post from 10 yards out. Surf SC goalkeeper Annie Heaton kept the U.S. off the board for the remainder of the first half with a pair of fine saves, including tipping a 35-yard rocket off the foot of Julie Lancos over the cross bar.

In the second half, Morgan got on the board after a great individual effort from Sinead Farrely. Farrely tapped the ball around her defender and made a 40 yard run down the right side of the field before crossing back to Morgan at the top of the penalty area. Morgan shielded of the defense and turned to fire a low shot inside the left post from 16-yards out in the 63rd minute.

Three minutes later, Morgan set up the first of Foxhoven’s two goals. Morgan flicked on a long ball out of the back that Foxhoven was able to settle away from her defender before she dribbled into the area all alone and finished to the right side of the net. In the 89th minute, Foxhoven tapped a 50-50 ball under the Surf goalkeeper after Teresa Nayola’s shot deflected off a defender.

Next up the U.S. U-17 WNT faces the U.S. U-16 WNT on Friday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. PT.
