On playing soccer and playing with some bumps and bruises:
“It’s a 24 hour a day job. We’ve got to heal our bodies and I’ll have to ice my ankle. But you have to come out every day and you have to perform. I don’t like to come off the field and whether I am limping around or not I need to get the job done.”

U.S. head coach Greg Ryan
On the game and getting a rhythm:
“It was great in the end. This surface was a very challenging to play on. It was wet, very short and fast. We never play on a surface quite like this one, so I think it affected the game a bit. We never found our rhythm but in the end we found our goals.”

On his team and the crowd:
“I’m really happy with them. They love playing, and they loved playing here tonight in Portland. It’s one of the best cities in the country and the fans are just so great and vocal, and have always come out to support this team.”

U.S. forward Kristine Lilly
On her goal from the corner kick, and if it went in:
“It looked like it. I was surprised that they didn’t call it right off but it’s one of those things. They gave it to me, so I appreciate that. It always does (feels good to score)…Getting used to this surface was tough but we scored some nice goals and gave the fans some good soccer.”

On what may keep her play for the National Team:
“I love the fans. It’s great to be out here with people yelling your name: ‘Kristine we love you.’ There’s nothing better than that. This team has done so much in the last three years. I know we can play better and I know we can win championships.”

U.S. defender Tina Ellertson
On playing 15 minutes from her hometown of Vancouver, Wash.:
“It’s so awesome to have the support. This whole World Cup, and playing these games, has been a lot of fun. It means a lot just to know that you have your family here; you came from here and there’s people here supporting you. I mean, my PE teacher was here from the third grade.”

U.S. defender Stephanie Lopez
On being on the bench during the game:
“It was great to see the girls and I was happy to be able to be on the bench and support them. I thought about playing, as obviously it’s really hard to sit on the bench and it’s always a great honor to play for your country. But I knew that it was probably the best for me in the long run, for the long college season and (the two games) this weekend.”
