U-18 Men's National Team Tops R.C. Lens Youth, 2-1

LENS, France (Thursday, June 5, 2003) – The U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team topped a RC Lens youth team 2-1 on Thursday, June 5 at a Lens’ training facility. The U.S. got a pair of early goals from Danny Vasquez and Karbassiyoon and held on for the win.

The U.S. dominated play in the first half, with the first goal coming off a corner kick in the 12th minute. Midfielder Arturo Alvarez’s corner service found Chad Barrett, who blasted a shot off which was deflected by a defender. Vasquez collected the ball off the deflection and put it home for a 1-0 U.S. lead.

Two minutes later, the U.S. again capitalized on a corner. Karbassiyoon headed in a service from Alvarez for a 2-0 lead.

In the second half, Lens regained some control of the match, eventually scoring on a penalty kick in the 45th minute.
