Development Academy Weekend Wrap-up (Jan. 15, 2008)
CHICAGO (Jan. 15, 2008) -- Pateadores played host to the Irvine Strikers on Saturday afternoon in SoCal Conference action, coming away with a 3-2 victory.

Irvine got on the board first when a Pateadores defender deflected the ball into the back of his own net. Five minutes later, Pateadores evened the score when Jomed Tejan knocked in a Ricardo Doddoli corner kick, leveling the score at 1-1 heading into the break.

Just three minutes into the second half, Tejan scored his second goal of the game, getting on the end of a through ball from Benny Estes and chipping the goalkeeper, giving Pateadores a lead they would not relinquish.

In the 60th minute, Estes scored a goal of his own. Jeff Bumb played a cross from the left flank to Estes who was alone in the box and volleyed it past the Irvine goalkeeper.

Irvine battled back and closed the gap to one goal when an Eric Vetter cross found Bobby Sekine alone on the far post, and Sekine touched the ball in past the Pateadores goalkeeper. The late goal proved to not be enough for Irvine, as the 3-2 score held up in favor of Pateadores for the final.

Pateadores will continue their SoCal Conference games when they face LAFC on January 19. Irvine next takes on Arsenal, also on January 19.

In U-17/18 action, CASL took on the Richmond Kickers Sunday afternoon, coming away with a 3-1 road victory behind three different goal scorers.

Watt Williams put CASL on the board in the 17th minute, finishing an assist from Michael Cantrell. Just three minutes later, Gabe Whaley got on the end of an Austin King pass to put CASL up two goals early.

The game would remain 2-0 until the 77th minute when Richmond’s Joseph Cyriac cut CASL’s lead in half by finishing a corner kick. The teams battled for the final minutes, and with Richmond looking for the equalizer, CASL was able to counter and pick up a goal in the 89th minute from James Carpenter, making the final score 3-1.

CASL also topped the Richmond Strikers, 3-2, on Saturday behind goals from Carlos Cipriano, Garrett Bostwick and Michael Cantrell.

Next up for CASL is a trip to Virginia to take on the Rush on Jan. 26. The Kickers will also travel on Jan. 26-27 to battle South Charlotte and North Meck.
