Colorado Rapids and Real Colorado Draw, 1-1, at Dick's Sporting Goods Park
CHICAGO (Feb. 26, 2008) – In Saturday’s Development Academy U-17/18 action, the Colorado Rapids hosted Real Colorado, earning a 1-1 draw at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

Real had a player sent off in the 10th minute of the game, forcing them to play a man down for a majority of the match. Just minutes later, however, Real’s Tony Roseles curled a free kick into the box that was redirected into the goal by Tarik Kramcha for a 1-0 lead.

We came out to play an exciting style of soccer and created multiple scoring chances in the first 10 minutes of the game,” said Real Colorado coach Lorne Donaldson. “After the sending off, we had to play more conservatively.  I was very impressed with the boys’ mental adjustment to playing down a player and the final results under the circumstances.”

Real’s lead would hold until the 68th minute, when the Rapids finally broke through. Alex Tarnoczi fired a shot from outside the box that beat goalkeeper Damir Trncic to the far post. The Rapids had a chance to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty kick in the 88th minute, but Trncic was equal to the task, pushing the ball wide of the goal.

“Real reacted well to being down a player for the majority of the match” said Rapids Head Coach Brian Crookham. “They were opportunistic on the restart and stayed organized. We needed to do more to pull them apart and exploit the advantage we had. It is certainly a game we have to learn from.”

Next up for Real Colorado is a trip to the SoCal Conference, where they will play Chivas USA on Saturday, March 1 and LAFC on Sunday, March 2. The Rapids will host the Colorado Rush at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on March 2.
