KNVB Coaching Symposiums To Be Held in the United States in July and August

As part of U.S. Soccer’s continuing efforts to provide coaches with opportunities to be exposed to and to learn from many different perspectives, the KNVB Dutch Coaching Symposiums return to the United States this summer for a sixth year of instruction.  These symposiums provide our members with additional coaching education opportunities and the chance to study and interact with some of the top coaches in Europe.

In six cities across the U.S. in July and August, Euro-Sportring/L&J Group, Inc. and the KNVB will conduct the KNVB Coaches Symposium and the KNVB Advanced Coaches Symposium.  The staff at the symposiums is made up of some of the top coaches in the Netherlands and may include Dutch National Team coaches and scouts.

Each clinic contains 30 hours of instruction and is based on the ideas of Rinus Michels, who created “Total Football” with the Dutch in the late 1960s.  Michels’ coaching resume includes two European Cups, a World Cup finals appearance and the European Championship with the Netherlands in 1988.

KNVB will host four KNVB Coaches Symposiums, focusing on more elementary concepts of coaching, and two Advanced Coaches Symposiums, which will spend more time on game analysis and top-level preparation.

KNVB Coaches Symposium

This symposium consists of 30 hours of instruction spread across three and a half days.  It is modeled after the Dutch Youth National Coaching Course and consists of 15 hours of practice sessions and 15 hours of theory sessions.  The symposiums focus on the elementary knowledge needed to coach in both practices and matches.

Seminar dates and locations:
Portland, Oregon; July 8-11, 2004
North Dartmouth, Massachusetts; August 5-8, 2004
Cincinnati, Ohio area, August 5-8, 2004
Atlanta, Georgia; August 12-15, 2004

KNVB Advanced Coaches Symposium

This symposium is limited to coaches with an "A" license or those who have attended previous Dutch Coaches Seminars. Special staff from the KNVB travels to the U.S. for these two advanced clinics. This symposium focuses more on game analysis, training and preparation.  Participants at these symposiums will attend and analyze a Colorado Rapids or New England Revolution MLS match, and Euro 2004 matches will be evaluated at both sessions.

"A" licensed coaches are eligible to earn four U.S. Soccer Continuing Education credits by taking this course.

Seminar dates and locations:
Denver, Colorado; July 2-5, 2004
North Dartmouth, Massachusetts; July 29 - August 1, 2004
