U.S. Under-17 '88 MNT Fall to Ivory Coast 1-0 at Montaigu Tournament in France

MONTAIGU, France (April 10, 2004) - The U.S. Under-17 ’88 Men’s National Team fell to Ivory Coast 1-0 this afternoon in their final Group A match at the Montaigu Tournament in Montaigu, France. The U.S. will play its final match of the tournament against Cameroon in the 7th/8th Place match on Monday, April 12.

The U.S. pressured the backline of Ivory Coast for most of the match and took nine shots, but only forced 'keeper Patrice Sopoude into one save on the day. On the other end, the U.S. defense held strong and stymied most of Ivory Coast's attack, only allowing them to get off three shots.

The only goal of the match came in the 16th minute off a corner kick. Ivory Coast midfielder Ibrahima Sangare served in a ball to the back post where Koro Kone was able to outjump his defender and head the ball past ‘keeper Evan Newton.
