U-18 Men's National Team Splits Games in Flores, Uruguay; Continues Tour of South America by Travelling to Argentina
  • U.S. defeats Paraguay, 1-0, on Aug. 2, loses to Uruguay, 3-1, on Aug. 3.
  • Dave Sarachan's Team Next Faces Argentine Club Side, Estudiantes, in Buenos Aires on Aug. 6.
  • TRINIDAD, Uruguay (Aug. 4, 2008) - The U-18 Men's National Team defeated Paraguay on August 2, 1-0, but fell to Uruguay, 3-1, on August 3. The two games were part of a busy weekend for Dave Sarachan's team, which was competing in an Under-20 tournament in the city of Trinidad, Uruguay - part of the Flores department in the southern region of the country.

In Saturday's victory over Paraguay, the U.S. jumped out to a 1-0 first half lead, courtesy of a goal from midfielder Anthony Arena. After the break, Paraguay went searching for an equalizer, but resilient defending from the U.S. preserved the narrow victory.

Sunday's game brought a different result for the U.S., who succumbed to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Uruguay. Three first half goals from the hosts proved to be too much for the U.S. to overcome, and though Latif Alashe converted a rebound in the 32nd minute, his goal proved only to be a consolation.

The U.S. continues it's trip in South America by heading south to Argentina. The U-18 MNT will play club side Estudiantes on Aug. 6 in Buenos Aires.
