Jim Barlow is entering his fourth year as the U.S. Under-15 Men’s National Team head coach after taking over for the departed Ken Lolla in late 2004.

Barlow is in his 12th year as Princeton’s head coach, where he has previously won two Ivy League championships (in 1999 and 2001). A former Tiger, he returned to his alma mater in 1996 after serving as an assistant coach at American University for four years while earning his M.Ed.

The Tigers’ 11-5-2 record, Ivy title and subsequent berth in the NCAA tournament during the 1999 campaign made it Barlow’s most successful as head coach. The 1999 Tigers captured an outright Ivy title (the first since 1960) and took Virginia to triple overtime in postseason play. In that season, Barlow led Princeton to the second highest single-season victory total (11) in the 94-year history of the program.

The 2001 squad finished the year with an 10-3-5 overall record and a 5-1-1 conference mark. During that year, Barlow coached Mike Nugent, Princeton’s first Ivy League Player of the Year since he won the award himself in 1990. Along with Nugent winning the league’s top honor in 2001, Matt Behncke took home the Roper Trophy as Princeton’s top male athlete of high scholastic rank and sportsmanship.

A Hightstown, N.J. native, Barlow was named the 1986 New Jersey Soccer Coaches’ Association Player of the Year. He also captained the 1988 Under-19 national champion Union Lancers and was a 1999 inductee into the Mercer County Soccer Hall of Fame.

At Princeton, Barlow was the 1990 Ivy League Player of the Year, the 1987 Ivy Rookie of the Year and a three-time first-team All-Ivy selection. He helped the Tigers qualify for a trip to the NCAA tournament his junior year.

Barlow was an assistant coach for the U.S. Under-16 Men’s National Team that placed fourth in the 2000 Tahuichi Tournament in Bolivia. He has also served on the USYS Region I staff, coached New Jersey and Maryland ODP teams, and currently trains a Princeton Soccer Association Under-16 squad.
