Personal: Full name is Mykell Thomas Bates … Was born in Sacramento, Calif. … Parents are Thomas and Arnette … Has one brother, Mikey, and one sister, Adriane … Adriane plays club soccer for River City … Also played football, basketball, baseball and ran track growing up … Was on the track team in high school … Named “Hardest Worker” and MVP on a basketball team growing up … Named “Best Baserunner” and selected to the All-Star team on a baseball team as a kid … First memory of soccer was when his coach tried to teach him how to not kick with his toe because he had no control and one time he hit a girl in the face and gave her a bloody nose … His best soccer moment was scoring a goal off a throw-in in the last five minutes of a championship game … His ultimate goal is to start in a World Cup game and eventually prove to the world that the U.S. is the best soccer country.
