A small but crafty midfielder with great vision and a deft touch on the ball, McCarty plays bigger than his 5-7 stature. Fighting for every ball that comes his way, the diminutive midfielder earned himself a consistent spot in the starting lineup for FC Dallas in 2007. McCarty was a big part of the U.S. Under-20 MNT during their quarterfinal run at the 2007 FIFA Under-20 World Cup.  He appeared in the midfield in all five games, and showed his toughness and versatility when he was forced to play left back for the second half and extra time of the team’s Round of 16 win over Uruguay.

• Was a first-round, 6th overall, pick in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft, taken by FC Dallas.
• Named NSCAA All-American during his sophomore season at North Carolina in 2005.

Professional – 2007: Saw his role with FC Dallas vastly increased in 2007, and made a name for himself with his feisty, unselfish play … Scored one goal in 25 appearances for the team, while also notching an impressive 18 assists … 2006: A first round pick in the MLS SuperDraft by F.C. Dallas, he was selected sixth overall … Appeared in two games as a rookie in 2006 … 
College: Played freshman and sophomore years at North Carolina before deciding to turn pro … NSCAA second-team All-American in 2005 … First-team All-ACC … Led the team with eight assists …  Played in 21 games as a freshman … Scored first collegiate goal in his second game in a 2-1 win over Ohio State … Claimed All-Tournament honors at Carolina Nike Classic with two assists and a goal in two games.
