"E" License FAQ's

• As of Jan. 1, 2012 the “E” course will be recognized as a U.S. Soccer “License” course.

Who is permitted to host “E” courses?

• The appropriate State Association (youth, adult, or joint) shall conduct “D,” “E” and Youth Module courses through their state coaching programs, with oversight by the U.S. Soccer Federation Coaching Education Department. The Federation may also conduct these courses.

How will the newly formatted “E” course flow with the “D” License course?

• The “D” License course is currently undergoing updates and revisions. All U.S. Soccer courses will flow together.

Is there a waiting period between the “E” and “D”?

• Yes, applicants must show they have been “actively coaching” for a minimum of six (6) months.

Will there be an “E” candidate manual?

• At this time there will not be a separate manual for the “E” course. Power point content will be available online. In addition, the new curriculum will serve as a resource guide book.

Will all course materials be provided in Spanish?

• There are plans to translate the “E” license course materials into Spanish.

What are the minimum competencies for earning an “E” License?

• Completion of the CDC Online Concussion Training assignment.
• Completion of the Laws of the Game assignment.
• Completion of the Team Management assignment.
• Completion of the Risk Management assignment.
• Submit a practice training session and receive a satisfactory score.
• Receive a satisfactory score for the on-field coaching assignment.

How will the minimum competencies for the “E” License be measured?

• Satisfactory completion of the five (5) competencies listed above.

How are the pre-course Competencies evaluated?

• Candidates will be asked to complete pre-course online learning assignments. Applicants must provide a copy of their completion certificates on the first day of the course.

Can a candidate fail the “E” course?

• Candidates are graded either “pass“ or “incomplete” for all written, oral and field

components of the course and must receive passing scores in all test areas in
order to earn the “E” License.

• If a candidate receives an incomplete score, he/she has the option to “retest” that subject at a future “E” course.
• There is no “waiting period” or set time period for the candidate to retest.
• Retest fees and registration process is at the discretion of the hosting organization.

Who will issue the “E” License to the candidate?

• The hosting organization will issue the “E” License certificate.

Will the U.S. Soccer Federation maintain data on “E” License participants?

• Yes. U.S. Soccer requires each hosting organization to submit records of who attended and completed the “E” License course. Additionally, the hosting organization must submit personal contact details for each candidate.

What are the requirements to enter the “E”?

• Applicants are recommended to be a minimum of 16 years old.

Can I (hosting organization) mandate that in order for an applicant to be eligible to attend an “E” License course they must first attend another course(s)?

• No. There are no pre-determined prerequisites for the “E” course other than a recommend age of 16 years or older.
• U.S. Soccer does not offer or recognize any courses below the “E” License course.
