  • Sits at the top of the U.S. all-time shutout list with an astounding 44 shutouts in 91 matches 
  • The only three-time winner of U.S. Soccer’s Male Athlete of the Year award, winning in 1997, 1999 and 2005 
  • Registered the second most minutes (1260) of any U.S. player during the team’s 2006 World Cup qualifying campaign 
  • A loss to Brazil in the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinal ended his remarkable 18-0-4 unbeaten record on U.S. soil since 1998 
  • A four-time FIFA World Cup veteran who began his international career in 1990, he was named to the 1995 All Copa America Team after helping the USA advance to the semifinals 
  • Made stops at Tottenham, Millwall and Leicester City in England and Rayo Vallecano in Spain’s Liga Primera before settling in at Borussia Moenchengladbach of the German Bundesliga

Tim Howard

Howard's Career Highlights
  • Made his first appearance for the USA in 2002, getting a clean sheet against Ecuador 
  • Started all three games during the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup in France, earning a shutout against Cameroon and Man of the Match honors in losses to Brazil and Turkey 
  • A finalist for the 2003 U.S. Soccer Male Athlete of the Year award, he made seven appearances for the MNT in 2003, posting two shutouts 
  • Made the most significant transfer in MLS history, signing with world power Manchester United, where he was named the English Premier League’s Goalkeeper of the Year after a stellar 2003-04 season 
  • A two-time MLS Best XI member, he became the youngest player to win the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award in 2001, recording four shutouts and a league-leading 146 saves

Marcus Hahnemann

  • Made the leap to Europe in 1999, joining Fulham for three years before being loaned out and finally singing a deal with Reading in 2002 
  • Has been Reading’s first-choice goalkeeper and lead the team to first place and promotion to the English Premier League in 2006 
  • Earned his first cap in 1994 against Trinidad & Tobago and played three games that year, but didn’t see action with the MNT again until 2003 
  • World Cup qualifying debut came on Sept. 7, 2005, against Guatemala, earning his first career shutout in a 0-0 draw 
  • Started his professional career with the Seattle Sounders before moving to the Colorado Rapids of MLS in 1997
