HERAKLIO, Greece (August 26, 2004) – Kristine Lilly sent a left-footed inswinging corner kick to the back post and Abby Wambach headed back to the near post and into the net off the head of a Brazilian defender on the goal line as the U.S. topped Brazil to win the gold medal. To open the scoringBrandi Chastain won the ball in midfield and played it to give the U.S. a 1-0 lead before halftime, but Brazil came back in the second half with a goal by Prentina.
