The Game: One-v-One to Channel the Attacker

Ages: 8+

Teaching Phase: Small Group

Benefits: Funneling, tackling, and dribbling

Rules: A one-v-one game in a 10x20 yard area, with two four-foot wide goals, each placed in corners of the end lines. Each player is assigned one goal to attack and one goal to defend. The player in possession attacks the other’s goal. Games can be won by whomever scores three goals, or play can last for a maximum of 60 seconds (45 seconds for younger players).

Variations: May also be played as a team game (two-v-two up to five-v-five) to work on group defending. Appropriately increase the field and goal size to accommodate the larger number of participants. Increase the length of the game by one minute per player added. For example, three-v-three is played in three-minute intervals.
